My 1989 Johnson 40HP Tracker has two fuel filters. Two inline fuel filters, one in hose and one under the cowling. I don't think it should have but one filter inline. Can't understand why it would have two. The filters keeps filling up with air. I bought this second hand so have no knowledge of any repairs. Can I take the second fuel filter out? Any ideas why it would have this second filter? I am writing this for my husband while he is working on this boat so forgive me if I sound like a woman, cause I am. As you know women and men don't think alike and transfering his words to my mind sometimes looses what he means. Doing the best I can. Thanks Carol

Re: fuel filter

The one in the hose is a good idea. If there's any junk in the tank, even little flakes of rust or dirt, it will catch them before they get to the outboard's own filter.

I highly recommend hanging on to both filters.
