I have a 16 foot flat boat with an Evinrude 35 horsepower outboard that was purchased by my dad in 1980. It has been sitting in the garage for almost 11 years. recently we have cleaned it out and got it regestered again. last week, my dad got it to start is 5 pulls. so that saturday we took it out. it started on the first pull. we then ran it for a little while, stopped, and fished. looking to go home, the motor wouldn't start. when we finally got back to the house , my dad changed the spark plugs, and it started, we let it run for a while then killed it. on july 4th we took it out again, after we put it in the water, my dad tried to start it. nothing. so we went back home. this past friday, my dad bought a new fuel line hose and set the death on the spark plugs. after that it started on every pull. so on saturday, july 9th we tried to go again. we launched the boat. it started on the first pull, so we went out, we ran it wideopen until we got where we wanted to fish. at this spot, nothing was bitting so we desided to move, one problem, the motor didn't start and we had to use the trolling motor to get back. i asked someone i know about the problem, he said it was the carborator, but my dad runs the gas out of the motor every time we use it so my dad said thats not the problem. would anyone with any ideas to the problem please post a reply or e-mail me with solutions at bradberthelot@cox.net
thanks, any ideas will be greatly appreciated

Re: need help locating problem

we need more info about motor to start figuring out what's going on. even though the carb's run dry doesn't mean that's not the problem.

we need to find out year and HP of motor first then we can start troubleshooting

Re: need help locating problem

After sitting that long the first thing is to check the fuel pump and replace it because it has all dried out and has became brittle over 11 years. Pull the carbs and soak them and put a kit in them. They have been sitting to long for them to perform right. By all means replace the impeller. I would bet my bottom dollar there ain't much of it left.
Ck the coils and see if any of them are cracked or oozing stuff out of them.
Un less I have missed something here you never did state what kind of motor we are trying to fix here.
