JOHNSON/EVINRUDE/OMC COMPANY WILL NOT DISCLOSE TO OUR DEALER/CERTIFIED MECHANIC THE PROPER NEW COMPRESSION SPECS. BEWARE OF BUYING THIER MOTORS DUE TO THIER LACK OF CUSTOMER APPRRICIATION.

Huh? What OMC Company? It is no more. Bombardier Recreational Products now manufactures Johnson and Evinrude outboard.

And, for your information, compression specs have never been part of the service information on these outboards.

Now, did you have a question regarding a Johnson or Evinrude outboard?

Re: JOHNSON/EVINRUDE/OMC

A certified tech would know that compression specs are not published. Too much variation in gauges used, as well as technique. Mercury doesn't specify such readings, nor does Yamaha. So I guess you're stuck paddling. :(

I'm sure someone here knows what the specs should be on a new motor (ballpark)

Re: JOHNSON/EVINRUDE/OMC

Sure...compression should be over 100 and even across the cylinders, to within 10% or so. The actual value is not stated by BRP, nor was it by OMC.

What I think happened is that the technician this person went to told him that the factory didn't specifiy set compression specs for the engine. This person may well have misunderstood the tech and thought that he meant that the factory wouldn't tell. Then this person got ticked off from the misunderstanding.

So, now, this person thinks that OMC (which doesn't exist) is a bad company, so he comes here and posts a shouting message in all caps three separate times about what a lousy company OMC (which doesn't exist) is. All over a misunderstanding.

Now, had he asked what the compression should be for his outboard, someone would have explained all this and told him what to look for and why there were no set specs.

It's all misunderstanding, and this guy's probably ticked off at iboats now, too. Too bad.

Here's a Colt 1851 Navy. Let's hope it doesn't go off half-cocked, either:

It was explained to him in detail. Look at his other ramblings. It wasnt what he wanted to hear so he got more ticked.

I pity the dealer who has to put up with this clown face to face.

Re: JOHNSON/EVINRUDE/OMC

Oh, I think boat and outboard dealers have to have the patience of Job, generally. Maybe that's true of everyone who deals with service on almost anything.

Folks don't understand the technology, they're worried that they're going to get ripped off somehow and their "buddy/uncle/next door neighbor" told them "something." Now the dealer or service tech is telling them something they don't understand to start with, and the explanation doesn't help, because they don't know what "compression" means anyhow.

So, because the tech is telling them something that's different in some way from what "bubba" told them, they get all bent out of shape and start in condemning everyone from the tech to the company that built the thing.

Patience of Job, I tell you.
