I was only reaching 5300 rpms max on my boat at wot, but I think I found out why by accident. My tach wasnt working so I bought a new OMC tach. It seems somebody told me that my tach should be set on 6P, but by accident I found out this was wrong. Mine should have been set on 4P which turns out the rpms will rise. A silly mistake I should have caught sooner.
I havent taken the boat out on the water, but I feel real confident that I will reach my 5800 goal, or at least come close.
Here check this out. web page

When checking the flywheel key, make sure it fits snug and tight in both the crankshaft and flywheel. Make sure its not worn.Basscat, I have been following all of the post on the OMC Guru's thread, it appears this 5000 MAX RPM issue crosses over all size motors...

Its pretty interesting, I cant wait for someone to figure it out.... They should recieve a prize.....
