hi, i'm hopping i dont have a big problem here but the way my luck is i'm sure i do. here it is.i'm trying out this 100hp 79 evinrude yesterday it ran like a top.today it was still good. ran out of gas filled it up and it ran like crap. it seemed like it was running on 2 cylinders. i thought they were foulled, so i kept going towards the dock then it got very very hot and shut down. one of the heads got hot enough to to turn a brown color the other looks normal. i didnt make it back and had to hike out. so i guess what i'm asking is should i hike back in and try new plugs or is it serously damaged now?

Re: 79 evinrude

cpace, I think you needs to take this overheat question to the Johnson/Evinrude forum. You may have an overheat problem that first needs fixin. Chief ;)

Don't try to run it any more, as it will over heat very quickly. You will want to track down the over heat problem, then do a compression test. You could have a stuck thermostat on the side3 that got hot.
