I dropped the lower unit to change the impeller, in doing so the drive shaft did not drop with the gearcase. Should it come down with the gearcase? If not how do you get the impeller drive pin in position?

The drive shaft should come down with the lower unit. It sounds like the drive shaft is seized in the power head.

Thanks for the reply. Any ideas on how to free the drive shaft from the power head. I tried to pull by hand. I was afraid to use to much force, didn't want to damage the shaft.

Being it's a solid shaft I can't see it being damaged by pulling by hand as long as you pull it straight, so use as much force as you have. If that don't do it you'll have to get someone elses opinion.
