Wrong Powerpack

1986 Evinrude 140hp

Been chasing a bogging problem for quite a while. Been through the fuel system many, many times and am convinced it is not fuel related.

Started dropping a cylinder at idle and determined that I had intermittent spark on two of my four cylinders. Replaced the coils and things seemed to improve somewhat, but I am still losing a cylinder(s) at idle (I'm assuming I still have four cylinders going at WOT as I can get the RPM up to about 5900-6000).

Started looking at the other ignition components and noticed that my powerpack isn't the one noted in my manual. The manual says powerpack should be part # 582262....the powerpack that is in the motor is # 583041.

About two years ago I had some other problems with the motor and took it to the only E/J dealer in my area. He had it for 2 months and never did get it running. Took it to an independent outboard repair guy...he got it running in a few hours, but not well. I've been tinkering ever since. I'm thinking one of these two guys swapped powerpacks on me when troubleshooting, and never put the original one back on.

I've ordered the proper powerpack, but am curious what motor the 583041 pack was designed for. Would this explain my bogging and/or cylinder dropping problem?

Thanks.

Re: Wrong Powerpack

Went to the Evinrude website and input the 583041 part number. It came up showing that the power pack was for the following models:

D100WTLM 1988
W100WTLM 1988

Also a few other variations substituting TX for TL etc.

I guess it must be some sort of 100hp engine from 1988, but the "Introduces" code doesn't seem to apply here. Curious.

The engine must be pretty similar to my 1986 model since the powerpack does make the engine go.

Guess I'll just have to wait for the pack I ordered and see what happens.

Cheers.
