I am trying to find a service manual for a 140HP Johnson. I spoke with my local dealer and they claim it is only sold in a set and I am better off with a Clymer or Seloc manual. Is this true? From what I have read in iboats the OEM manual is better. It is a 1982 140HP Johnson that I want a OEM service manual for. Any ideas?

marineengine.com can sell you the service manual.
Also, your dealer is an idiot.

Either your dealer doesn't know or your dealer just wants to keep working on your engine.

Thanks for all of the help everyone. They have never seen my motor and I hope to keep it that way. I have heard stories but figured they would at least be able to get a manual. I guess I was wrong.

I asked the same thing myself the first time I went to dealer to inquire on some parts. They don't even carry manuals of any sort, and I thought they were idiots about halfway through conversation. I ended up working on my 8 horse myself with no books or any advice and got it rolling.

Found Service manuel, Owners Manuel, Parts catalog for my 1975 Johnson 50ESL75B at ww3.kencook.com You might try there. They have them all and at a resonable price. Your dealer just wanted to plug his product. Good luck

You can occasionally pick up a good deal for a used manual on ebay. Got my '86 Evinrude 140hp manual for $10.

Cheers.
