Uneven acceleration

When I accelerate the engine seems to almost jump from about 1500 to 2500 RPM with very little movement of the throttle. <br /><br />Could this be a linkage problem? Where do I start?<br /><br />1994 Johnson Commercial (J150WTXERC)<br /><br />Thanks in advance

Is this somthing that just started, or has changed, or is this a new motor to you and noticed it the first time out?
