Cowling gasket lube?

The cowling gasket on my '86 110 hp is getting old, and I'm wondering what is the best way to preserve it, because it's starting to get a little hard and crusty, though still fairly pliable.<br /><br />Should I apply vaseline, Vinylex, Armor All, or something else?

WD-40?<br /><br />The Vinylex is a silicone spray -- maybe that's the way to go -- was wondering if something more penetrating was in order?
