EZ Crank Bearing Check?

I was wondering if there is a way to check crank berings without seeing them. I am going to rebuild my 1974 Jonny 85 this off-season. If there is a way to check the bearings without splitting the lower cases I would certainly like to try. If not, then I was thinking of doing it just because I'd be half way there already. It would be worth the peace of mind. Plus whatever else than needs to be done while the cases are split.

Also after researching some posts in here it sounds like I shold do the carbs, waterpump, and lower unit oil and seals while I'm at it.

How were you going to rebuild the motor without splitting the halves?

Re: EZ Crank Bearing Check?

I guess rebuild wasn't a good choice of words.
My apologies. I was going to try and get away with just the things I listed at the bottom of my post. plus a couple of other odds and ends like plugs, wires, fuel lines etc. The compression is near perfect so the crank bearings were my next big concern, but I did not want to split the cases if there was an easy way to check them.

CAT:
With good compression, you'd be best off leaving the engine alone unless it's making "bad bearing" noises.

That's what I figured, I just thought if there was an easy way to check I would.
