For some reason, the no-oil alarm frequently sounds when the motor is idling. It doesn't happen all the time, and never goes off under load, only during idle. I can shut the engine down and restart and it goes away.

The oil tank is full and the bulb is hard. Any suggestions?

Yooper
No oil alarm (rapid beeping) or low oil (beep every 5 seconds or so)? Or is it a continuous tone?

Check all the connections and ensure that they are tight. The system is likely getting air in it. When the engine speeds up or the primer bulb is squeezed it purges the air out, thus the alarm stops. If the engine sits for awhile air manages to get in and create a no oil warning. The VRO systems has to be air tight. I had a 1986 120 Evinrude that did the same thing. I put on new oil lines and clamps, problem solved. Make sure that any time you remove or replace any oil lines on the VRO system that you run on premix to insure the oil pump is primed and pumping oil. Mark your oil tank and run on premix. Watch to ensure that the oil level is going down on the tank before you run clear fuel. I have seen alot of VRO pumps changed when they did not have to be due to an air leak in the lines. Good Luck.
