My 1997 200 hp johnson ocean runner runs perfect except when you get in rough seas that give the boat a hard jolt the engine cuts back about 1200 to 1500 rpms.from 4200 to about 3000 and seems to bog.But when you come off plane , turn off the key and re-start it runs fine untill you hit another big wave.I've Had this boat for about two years and take it off shore regular and have had no past problems, even in rougher seas than when it was giveing me problems. Can anybody help?????

First WELCOME!!!!!

Your symptoms point to an on-again off-again short or weak ground that is resulting it you dropping one or two cylinders in rough water. I have no clue on how to go about finding it except to clean every connection & ground you can find.

I agree. Sounds like you are dropping cylinders. Check your ignition connections from powerpack to coils. I'd also check out the shift interrupter switch mounted on the gear shift lever. This disables one bank of cylinders when you change out of gear. If this was faulty or loose wire etc. you'd be dropping half your cylinders. Maybe when you shift to neutral to start you fix it again. Only speculation but worth a look.
