Re: evinrude starting problems

Hello Bob!

Welcome to the forum. If I were you I would not be using starting fluid on an outboard engine. It will wash the cylinders clean of all oil could cause gauling of the cylinders wall. That stuff is for cold diesel engine starts.

I would do a compression test if its above a hundred pounds on all cylinders should be good.

I would then try new champion plugs. I dont know the numbers for the plugs off the top of my head, But will look it up for you if you dont have a manual as yet.

If that dosent start it up. Then I would suspect dirty carbs. Tare them down completly including welch plugs, use carb cleaner and compressed air.

Make sure timeing is correct. And do a link and sink on the engine, It is extremely important. You will need a manual for that.

1 link and sync.
2 new plugs
3 clean carbs
4 set timeing
5 check to see if fire to plugs will jump 7/16 gap.
But do keep that starting fluid in the can.

Good luck!

Bob! Its almost a must that you have a service manual for your motor.

I dont have one for your motor. You may find one at your local libray. You can find one at kencook books .com.

Mabey some one on the forum with a correct manual will come on and help you out.

No doubt their's some of the fulltime machanics on the forum that can do it off the top of their heads.

I can do mine but I cant do yours. Sorry!
