Just received fuel pump rebuild kit from iboats. All manuals I consulted (including Ken Cook) say this pump cannot be rebuilt. Now I have the parts but no documentation on how to rebuild the pump. Yes, I disassembled the original pump with no attention given to original configuration. Please help.

Is the shape of your pump square? If so, the rebuild kits will not work. The original pump has been superceded by pump number 388685 in which case the rebuild kit would work. OEM rebuild kits come with a three page sheet of instructions on how to put them back together. You may be further ahead by just getting a new pump. iboats have them to or just go to your local John/Rude dealer for a new one.

TYVM OBJ. It IS the square one. Curious why iboats would have sent me something which has been superceded or has no instructions. And yes, I did use the manual. lol

Bednick

I don't think that is what OBJ said, Bednick.

I think he said the kit will overhaul the pump that superceded your square pump.

Good luck. :)

OBJ:

The kit sent me by iboats has 2 springs, and square gaskets, diaphragm (?) and other parts identical to the parts from the square pump I disassembled. My questions are: if the square pump is not serviceble or rebuildable, how come I was sent a rebuild kit for it? and if this is a rebuild kit for this pump, where are the rebuild instructions?

The items sent me are identified as "18-7823 Fuel Pump Kits." The parts in this kit are identical to those in my disassembled pump which is identical to the pump shown in the link in your last posting. If I knew how I would take a digital pic of this kit to post to you.

At this point I will probably go for the complete pump, but I am puzzled.

Bednick

Is this by chance the same as your pump?
Paul I think on the pump he has now, a threaded piece fit in throught the back side of what would be #4 on your pic....(which is really neat). The fuel inlet cover thumb screw would screw into the threaded piece. I just run into this at the shop a week or so ago and couldn't rebuild the pump. Had to get a new one cause of that darn threaded piece.

Paul, yes that is the pump I have except for # 2. BTW, how did you get the pics into your post?
