I have a 1986 35 Johnson that has started running on only one cylinder. The other cylinder will misfire occassionally but thats it. The plugs and leads are OK (tested them by switching them and running the motor on the one cylinder). There seems to be plenty of fuel reaching both cylinders so I am pretty sure it is electrical concerning the botton cylinder. Any thoughts?
Cheers
Maraetai

Hello maraetai.
Its not sure, that the problem is electrical.
You can se your wirering here for your motor
http://ishopmarine.com/ishop/jsp/As...~A0000021~M0010535~M0010614~M0010616~C0205655

First you could try to change the coil from top to lower cyl. just to see /control, that it is not a bad coil.

The next thing you should do, is to take a comp.test off both cyl. If low pressure on the botton cyl. then you have found the problem.

If coil and comp.test is OK, then I think the problem is in the powerpack.

Good luck.

Hi Kim,
You make a good point about compression. Will check that first. Thanks for the advice.
Maraetai

I checked both the compression and tested the coils. The compression on the bottom cylinder was a bit low but the problem turned out to be the coil as the motor fired up on the bottom cylinder when I switched the coils. Thanks again
Maraetai
