1992 evinrude 125hp.

Just above the spark plugs on each side there are two "thermostats" that make the horn sound when they overheat. Are these also involved in forcing the motor to SLOW mode? Is there a different thermostat elsewhere? (Can't seem to find it in Clymer)

Re: Where is thermostat?

Nope...only two t-stats Scrape. Clymers won't tell ya' that. That's why we like the OEM manuals. Yes the t-stats send the the "slow down" signal to the pack during and overheat condition.

The temp sensor,s are the ones with the tan wire,s. One on each bank.

Yes they are what puts motor into SLOW. either one will do it....Hopefuly!

You also have a t..stat in each head on v6 engines. T..stats have no wires.

T..stats seldom stick closed. Nearly always they stick open.

But if stuck open, they should be replaced. Motor running to cold will kill it also, just not as quick as to hot. But it will eventuly die.

Motor should run between 125 and 175 degres. You can check with (melt sticks) auto parts stores have them.

More than you ever wanted to know about a dadgumed t..stat...Huh!

Good Luck!

Re: Where is thermostat?

The older OMC manuals were the best....it actually showed ya' how things work....like coils in the ignition system and carbs. Really filled in the blank places. Course, with the CD ignitions and optical ignitions, it be tough to explain them in a few paragraphs. OH Well hell, keep tinkerin' and learnin'....still appreciate ya' get my wrongs right..... :)
