Mods if you think this is better suited for the Johny/Rude forums please move it.

I have a 1991/92 Evinrude 9.9 that I want to convert to electric start. From what I have been able to determine I will need the following parts; new flywheel, starter, starter bracket, solenoid, neutral safety switch and bracket, start button. I don't need the charging cicuit. Do I need to change any of the components UNDER the flywheel ? Is there anything else I need to find ? In the research I have done so far I can see that the model years 1974-1992 are all the same as far as the electric start components are concerned. Can anyone confirm or dispute this ?

One more thought. Will I be able to leave the rope start mechanism in-place as a backup for the electric start incase it fails ?

I have done it on my 33hp and luckily I have a compatable flywheel but you seem to have it covered .What about an electric choke? save you all the hassle but hey leave that pull start in place .plan a electric start, plan b pull start plan c spare trolling motor ,plan d paddles!!

Re: Converting rope start to electric start - Evinrude 9.9

Got the motor finished and on the water this weekend. Everything worked out great. A simple push of the button now to start it up. I ended up buying used parts off e-bay one-at-a-time and found some great deals. Took me 6 months to accumulate everything I needed but in the end it only cost me about $300 plus my time. I sandblasted and painted all the parts and they look brand new. Thanks to everyone who offered advice and information for this project.
