The first time I decarbed my engine it ran pretty good for quite some time but towards the end of the day started acting up again. I switched from 50:1 premix to 40:1 and decarbed again and today the engine ran great for about 2 hours before starting to run poorly again but still only above 3/4 throttle.

It was an improvement over last time because the plugs were not completely covered in carbon but aparently just enough to cause a misfire. Also, only the top two cylinders are loading up with carbon and the bottom two seem to be fine which leads me to believe it's a carburetor problem but both carbs are setup to be identical.

My questions are, other than bad fuel or fuel/oil mix, what could cause a cylinder to load up with carbon?? Both carbs are getting the same mix so they should all have carbon, right?? Also, the same top two cylinders smoked worse and caused the engine rpms to drop while the bottom two did not while I was spraying Seafoam Deep Creep into the carb throats. I'm not sure what this means or if it is even significant, but it seems odd that it's the same two cylinders that are giving me trouble now.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I'm close to getting this thing working properly and I'd really like to get it done before I have to put it away for the winter.

Thanks.

Your going from 50:1 to 40:1 was a step in the wrong direction.

If you have not rebuilt your carbs., do so, NOW.

Don't let one plug up and wreck the entire powerhead.

BTW, Use Champion plugs ONLY.

Sounds like a carb issue to me as well....

I'm sorry, I meant that I went from 50:1 to 40:1. The carbs were rebuilt about 2 weeks ago, but I'll open them up and verify that there's nothing sticking in there.

I do have NGK plugs in it now, but they seemed to run fine until today. I have to change them again anyhow, so I'll get Champions this time.

$40:1 is a richer mix, it will load up your cylinders more and foul your plugs easier. Switch back to the 50:1 mix. Top two cylinders get fuel from the top carb, there is something causing the top carb to run rich, float may be adjusted wrong.

I'm sorry, I made the same mistake twice while typing. I'm running 50:1 now per the manual.

Just opening up the carbs and looking won't tell you much. I'd pull them and blow out all the passages with hig pressure compressed air.
