I have a 1991 Johson 40 Hp, with elec. trim and tilt. It works FINE, via the pushbuttons on the side of the case. This motor "had" a remote footswitch control for trim and tilt, but someone cut the wires and kept the switch. My question is, there are 4 wires that were cut in a bundle under the cover, that controlled this. I got a replacement trim/tilt control, but it has only 3 wires. What colors go to what on the engine? Do two of them get twisted together or something, to make 4 wires team up with 3?

Help. I have a red, green, blue and brown at the motor, and only a blue, green and red for the remote switch. Something aint right.

Ignore the brown wire, it is for the trim gauge, which you probably don't have. Just connect the red, blue, and green wires together, and tape the end of the brown wire to protect it.
