I have a 67 evinrude Fisherman serial # 6702D-E02284. I got it as part of the deal on a 12 aluminum boat. It does not run, has compression, no spark and fuel flow. I have tried to remove the flywheel on the top with a harmonic balance steering wheel remover but cannot get it to budge.
it seems to be missing a nut on the top of the flywheel.

Welcome to Iboats!

Sounds like you're doing the right thing. Also, it sounds like someone's already tried to pull the flywheel due to the missing nut. I'll bet the flywheel key has sheared causing you to loose spark and also makeing the flywheel unusually difficult to remove.

Some suggestions: Tighten up on your puller and then lift up on the whole flywheel rig/puller and tap the center puller bolt with a hammer. Retension and repeat. If that doesn't seem to be getting you anywhere, soak it with penetrating oil and leave it on & tensioned up overnight. If that doesn't work, try heating the middle of the flywheel with a torch. A Mapp torch would be best, but a propane one might be adequate.

Thanks Paul,
the tapping did the trick! Got the darned thing off and cleaned it up inside. The key had not sheared off so I am not sure what the deal is with the lack of spark. everything inside looks good. Should I just go for the points and condenser kit, or do you have any suggestions?

Check the points and replace or clean them and regap to spec.
But take a good look at the coils as if there are any cracks in the insulation on the body they will be faulty and need replacing.
Its a common problem on the older engines but easy to fix.
They often look good on top but underneath it may be different.
If you place the flywheel back on and finger tighten the nut you can crank it on the starter cord to check for spark without doing any harm. (Just in case you need to remove the flywheel again.)
Make sure that the spark plugs are removed from the head and that the lower unit is in water when you're doing this so you don't damage the water pump.
Don't forget to re-torque the nut to the right tension before you run the motor though.
If it has the old large style pump impellor fitted you have to replace them with a package that updates to the late style small diameter impellor.
Peter
