Thanks to EZEKE, REELDUTCH , LEDGEFINDER,and RODBOLT for their insight and the answers to my questions about the t-stat work I was doing.

Thanks also to PAPASMURF for his quick reply (8 minutes!) to my post regarding finding an obscure part. He got me pointed in the right direction, and I was able to find out the name and part number I needed. From the time I posted the question to resolution, about 40 minutes!

And also a BIG Thanks to EVERYONE who replies to these posts. Most of the answers to my questions come from previous posts! I hope to be able to return the favor to someone in the future.

Keep this site rockin' ! :D

Thanks to OBJ my mind rests a little easier. After reading the horror posts about thermostats I asked about how to check and OBJ was kind enough to reply and supply info. Thanks again OBJ.

I have received help from many of you but my most consistant tutor has been Paul Moir, thanks all, and thanks Paul. If you ever get out to Montana let me know, we will take the Alumacraft out and catch us some Salmon or Trout, and if I experience mechanical difficulties, well......I will have an OMC doc aboard!

In fact, I do believe Paul is part machine, he sure knows how to think like one. I will be starting a new restoration soon, hope you are still out there!!!!!

Re: Thanks for the help II.

A very heartfelt thanks to all you regulars; you know who you are.

I quit drinking booze a little over two years ago and desperately needed something to replace those hours of stupor. Something rewarding and constructive and interesting. I bought a fishing boat for $200 that had a 1967 18HP Johnson on it that didn't run, thinking I'd get back into fishing. I found the iBoats Forum searching for advice on how to get that old girl running.
Now I spend tons of happy "spare time" working on boats & old OMC outboards and reading the iBoats forums. My booze money goes to more motors & boats & trailers and the parts & supplies to fix them. I'm set for life with this hobby. This forum's been a huge part of my recovery. I fix the old boats & motors, they fix me. You guys saved my marriage and my life. How's THAT for a "THANK YOU"?!?

Re: Thanks for the help II.

Success!, this forum helped beyond words. The guy at the boat repair here locally said my motor was too old and would cost more than it was worth to get it running. Today, after guidance from this site I ran the motor on the water and it ran great. I started out looking for information and received replies immediately from my post. I followed the FAQ about awakening a sleeping outboard. Then I followed the advice of getting a manual and rebuilt the carbs. I look forward to the coming days on the water and monitoring this forum for future tips. Thanks to JB, OBJ, rickb1boat, and ledgefinder on their replys to my post. Again, I think this forum gives the reader confidence to attempt and accomplish repairs that normally we would not even attempt.

Much thanks,
Tom

Re: Thanks for the help II.

"OBJ" gave me small talk to jump start my ego on my 140 Carb trouble, if all else fails read yur manual, never second guess your mistakes unless you got money and time to burn. Use this forum for all your Marine guess work and give as much detail to insure a full undisclosed answer, if all else fails resubmit yur answer and maybe a Fleet Admiral like "OBJ" will provide yur quik and concise remedy.
Sincerely Stacks
