Hello....I have a 77 Johnson 35hp electric start thats in great condition for its age.....

I found a 78 Rude 35 that looks similar to mine. The only problem that I see with it is that the cav plate is all busted up....

Will the Rude 35 be a good Parts motor for me????...and if so how much should I offer for it????....Thanks in advance for any info.....Warren

My 77 Johnny 35
P.S....Its about a 4 hour drive to pick up the Rude. I need to factor that into the offer....

Photos make it look like yours is a long shaft and the Evinrude is a short shaft. If that's the case, midsection housing, drive shaft, etc won't successfully replace yours.

Wow the Johnny looks brand new. As close to mint as you can get.

I would guess that the majority of the parts are interchangable. But maybe not all of them. That series motor ran from '77 to '84 I believe. So a lot of the parts will stay the same. Of course you might want to look at parts diagrams for both engines and compare part numbers of the parts you feel you might use.

The 76 had pionts/condensers ignition, dont rember when the CDI's came out, If they have different systems, no parts from ignition wil interchange. Powerhead will bolt right on and both ignition systems will fit both powerheads. The early vintages of that model powerhead was with a small diameter center bearing on cranckshaft, but I frankly dont remember the year the nwe cranck came out. The 35 Johnsons are still the same I think.

G DANE, I have a '77 35 hp and it's CD. You're right, the 1976 used points and condenser. 1977 must have been transition year for the 35.
