Last time I took my old boat out on the lake she was running great. I set her up in the driveway yesterday to run it for awhile and check the timing. After a VERY hard start it started running rough, better after a long warmup. At random intervals though it would "miss" sometimes enough to kill the motor. I ended up taking the plugs out and they were quite black and grungy.

The oil/gas is mixed correctly and the low and high speed setting have been set using the J.Reeves method.

I'm hoping for any suggestions on where to start looking. I do use the boat mostly for fishing, should I think about switching to J6C Champions? (I'm currently using the recommended J4c)

Thanks,

Matt

P.S. Paul, if you're reading this. The timing was on the very right side of the | | mark. In case you're curious. :)

Hello.
You may want to check the needle settings again. It happens quite often that they vibrate loose and open up.The result is a far too rich mixture.

Update:

Threw in some new J6C's, fired up and ran like a champ. We'll see if these get fouled up.

Matt

I wasn't happy with being off to the right in the | | mark, so I reset the points today. Now its right in the middle. I know it probably doesn't matter, but I can sleep better tonight. lol

I'll let you know on the J6Cs.

Matt
