I have a 1990 6 hp evinrude which is very hard to start. The only way to get it going is to prime cylinder with fuel.Checked compression at about 75-80psi,is that enough compression or do i need to check head gasket and or rings? Thanks.

Welcome to IBoats!<br />Is this a multiple cylinder engine? If it is, what's really important when dealing with compression is if it's consistent from cylinder to cylinder. Does the engine run well once started? Make sure that you're following the proper starting procedure.

Thanks.Yes it is a two cylinder and the compression seems to be the same on both.Seems to be a loss of power when it is running.Following proper starting procedure but it floods every time.Just rebuilt carb because of this problem.Starts perfect when it is warmed up.
