I'll go back to my old responses -- why wont he run the tests? Whats the other 400 for?

You dont need another pump to run mixed fuel. Just plug the oil inlet side of the existing pump. Mix oil in the fuel (which youve already done). Unhook the wires from the pump and tank. Remove the tank (if you want to).

One of the first things I did to my 1987 twins when I bought my rig 12 years ago was to pull the VROs. No regrets - - none.

Dhadley,

I'm am not 100% sure of the test they ran to conclude that it was the pump - they said they tested the horn and the pump then cuncluded it was the pump. the cost break down is aprox $300 for part - $400 labor.

I am just going to plug the hole [assuming I can get at it, they jam stuff in these bad boys] and remove the wires.

The wierdest thing about all this is that they told me to mix 100:1 on the oil, when the manual say 50:1 - maybe it dont make a diference but WTF would you go against the manual for?

You need a different service shop. Perhaps someone who is actually familiar with Johnson outboards.

But I just wasnt convinced that they were positive thats what it was based on what I have read here and what the mechanic told me there "looking at it I dont think its the pump - but I will check it anyway" then next call I get I'm told its the pump. And $700 is an expensive "lets give this a try"
Mudjive,

Can you share with me where you took your motor to in an email? Looking for a good mechanic for my rig.

Thanks,
Mudive,

Can you tell me who you were dealing with? I don't want to waste my time as well.

I will second that about removing the VRO.. I did it 2 years ago and have never regretted it..Mine does smoke a little more as well, but I would rather remove it instead of taking the risk of having to replace the whole motor..That would be bad!! Dhadley is right about not having to add a fuel pump..They didn't on mine..My buzzer was doing the same thing yours was and the VRO was working, but it was not pumping enough oil to please the warning horn!! Good luck!! and don't forget to pre-mix
