Convert long shaft to short shaft, can I ?

I have a few Evenrude 6-10 HP (1985 vintage) long shaft engines that I would like to be short shafts.<br /><br />What has to be changed to do this conversion, or is it not possible.

Hi, the midsection appears to be the same, so replace long shaft L/U with standard length L/U.<br /><br />Beyond that I think its a can of worms!<br /><br />Good Luck,<br />Mike

Probably not worth doing, once you see what parts are needed (BTW, it's not just the drive shaft that needs changing). Check a parts list ... should be pretty obvious what's needed beside the drive shaft.

Shift rod has to shorten some how and water tube ?????

Why not just sell them? People are always looking for good running long shaft kickers for trolling with their big boats.

Okay, I will just fix them up and sell as long shafts, that sounds good to me! I thought they would only be good for a sail boat but sounds like there are more uses.
