any thoughts on a bayliner 2556 (25' with 9'6" beam, wt 5685 lbs) dual helm flybridge boat (only 3 max can ride on the bridge) with a 5.7/alpha one or 5.7 bravo ii as an alternative to a 2859 bayliner classic hardtop (28' with 9'9" beam, wt 7597 lbs.) with 5.7 bravo ii or 7.4 bravo ii?

Re: bayliner 2556 vs 2859

My own thoughts are I go with a Classic. They are somewhat hard to compare, as the size differences (as indiciated by the weights) are substantial.

It also boils down to whether having a bridge is critical to your preferences.

I had a 2655 sunbridge for 8 years, and if I was to get another big boat, the first on my list to look at would be the 2859 Classic, but everyone has their own criteria of what they are looking for!

Don't even look at a 2859 with a 5.7. There are a ton of stories from owners about how poor the performance is with a small block engine (bow-up attitude, poor economy, low top speed). Big block is the only way to go on this boat.

I concur with Mike - the 5.7 was great on my 2655, but would be marginal on the bigger and heavier Classic.

Thanks for the info in this thread. I'm also looking at the same and had almost the same question. Cheers!

Years back I had a 27 1/2' Victoria with a 5.7 and it was a slug of the first order.
