I just purchased a "seventies" 50 HP Johnson attached to a Boston Whaler 15' Super Sport.

The engine info. is:

Mod# 50ESL75B

Serial# E4265230

My questions are:

1. I assuime this engine has a charging system?

2. What pole do I set the tachometer to?

3. Can I install a water pressure guage. If so, HOW?

Re: Guage Question

DJ, same motor I have, 1975 50hp. For the tach you would want to set it on setting 6, (12 pole = 6 pulse), engine is loop charged also. As to the water pressure gauge I'm not sure how that would be done.

Re: Guage Question

DJ this may be a dumb question. Is that a V4 engine? If it is I have some pictures that will show you where to locate it. If its a 3 cyl I might be able to help there to.

Re: Guage Question

Ought to have a 6 amp stator (charging system). The rectifier is the round thing with the three wires just about the junction block & power pack.

Re: Guage Question

I'm taking a stab at it, but could the WP gauge be tapped into the motor like the telltale's are?

Thanks all.

It's a 2 lunger (2-cyl.)

1. Any ideas on water pressure?

2. Where do I tap into the control box for tach? It DOES NOT have the OMC handy "plug in".

Re: Guage Question

DJ,

Depending on the control box, you may have to open the box, there should be a gray wire which is the send wire, if your tach has 3 wires one wire will go to the gray, one to the pos. & one to the ground terminal on the start switch.

What type of c/box is it and what brand of tach?
