Have a 1997, 60 degree, evinrude 90hp, carbureted V4 (loop charged).

Done 430 trouble free hours since purchasing new.

Noticed yesterday while greasing linkages that at WOT carb butterflies do not open all the way.

Performance has always been (and remains) great with engine running to 5400RPM without problem. Starts easily after first start of the day and idles smoothly at all times. (Sometimes takes two or three goes to start when cold)

Have tried to purchase a workshop manual but a 2 week delay as they are out of stock.

Should I

(a) be looking to adjust carb butterflies and if so how?

(b) wait for the workshop manual if it is going to be a complex operation?

(c) leave it alone and continue to enjoy my boating?

Anyone with expert knowledge to assist in answering the above would be appreciated. I thought it might be something as simple as adjusting the throttle cable but given its running perfectly at the moment do not want to play with it without more information.

Certainly agree with MCM... Very intricate system, EASILY seriously messed up with you're not completely familiar with the complete linkage system on the motor. AT LEAST wait till you have a manual, and you still might decide to let a reputable shop check it for you the first time (maybe even while you watch and learn...).

Wait fot the manual.Usually the throttle plates should be open 100% (and not over than that).

But the manual will tell you this and how to change if needed. If you are not comfortable doing these adjustments TALK to your dealer and make sure he is OK about doing it.

DHP

On a V4 looper the butterflies dont open quite all the way for best performance. But the line on the linkage will be straight ahead. At wide open the butterfly will hide the emulsion tube ever so slightly. Anyway just look at the mark on the linkage. Very simple.

At 5400 youre killing the motor. And not getting the full benifit of what you paid for. Get the r's up to 6000 with an average load. You and the motor will be much happier.
