What is the shaft length of a short shaft 1967 40hp Evinrude model #40752E is it 18" or is it 15"? I have read that both are considered variations of a short shaft. Is this true for this year?

Thanks

There is a bit of doubt there.
The older johnnyrudes have 2 cavitation plates(or if you like that better ventilation plates)The top one sits at 15 inches while the bottom one is 18 inches.
The long shaft is 5 inches longer on both, that makes it 20 and 23 inches. You have to find the right spot on the transom to attach them. With a deep V all the way down and with a flat bottom as high up as you can get it.

The real cavitation plate, the one that is directly above the prop, is 18" from the clamps.

The bulge that many people mistakenly call a cavitation plate, 15" from the clamps, is where the lower unit bolts up to the leg, and houses the waterpump
