When running wide open yesterday, there was a slight vibration. When I backed down a bit it went away. Also,we ran out of gas, when I got home to clean it out,it wouldn't start. What gives?

Your discription seems a little vague.Difficult to tell anthing specific from your discription.Did the primer bulb get firm when you squeezed it?Did you check for spark?Did the tank empty or did it simply seem to starve for gas? What have you done to try to start it?Is the gas line hooked up correctly? Is the tank vent open and working?Does it seem to have good compression?

The primer bulb got semi-hard,though it is never real hard.I've changed the plugs. Can the points just all of the sudden die? They haven't been changed in 2yrs.Although it sat in the shed for 1 year.Gas is hooked up right.Compression is good.

Not likely. The ignition systems for the top and bottom cylinder are completely independant except for the kill switch. What could send both south at the same time is a failed top seal crank seal, which quickly contaminates the points with oil.

But do you have spark? You should be able to draw 3/8" long arcs off both the top and bottom cyliner.

But I think you have fuel problems since that will most often affect both cylinders. When you squeeze the primer bulb, does fuel flow out of the carb? You'll need a flashlight to see down the throat of course. If the float needle valve is leaking, the engine will run rich and vibrate (4-stroking).

Don't think I've heard the term "4-stroking" used before Paul. Would that mean the cylinder is firing twice from the rich fuel mixture? Thanks.

Jim

OBJ: yeah, exactly, where it seems to hit every second cycle. Sort of studdering. I think I got that term for it from JB. It seems to fit pretty good to me.

Scottoe69: Halifax as well, although technically I'm residing across the harbour in Dartmouth. What's your Grandfather's family name?

Thanks to everbody. When all else fails use a manual but, when you don't have one you go to Iboats.com.The carb was full of water. So,not being a mechanic I took it to my lawnmower mech. and he gave me a lesson on the basics.I told him what ya'll said.So he decided to give me the lesson. Thanks again, Scott
