While working on a 1993 9.9 johnny I damaged the piston connecting rod #0396607.It goes from the crankshaft to the piston.I have another one off a 1975 9.9.(# 0385964)
Checking the the interchangability I came up with the following.#0396607 replaces # 0385964.
Ok so I can use a 1993 one on a 1975.There are a few differences. While the '75 has one hole on the cap and the piston end,the 1993 has 3 holes on each end, presumably to allow for better lubrication. Also the '75 has the piston wristpin needles in a housing while the '93 has no housing.
This being said, the question is,can I use the earlier 1975 piston rod in a '93 engine as is or must I drill additional holes in the bearring cap and wristpin end or must I get the 1993 and forget about using a 1975?
As always, thanks for your help and opinions,Rolmops
