Remove spark plugs. Rig up a spark tester whereas you can set a 7/16" gap. At cranking speed, the spark should jump that gap with a strong blue lightning like flame.

If it does, I'd suspect that the carburetors need cleaning thoroughly. There's a fixed brass fixed high speed jet located in the bottom center of each carburetor float chamber. If those jets should be slightly clogged/restricted, that would cause a high rpm problem. The adjustments you mentioned pertain to the lower rpms and idle.

In one area, you say the engine stops. In another, you say it's missing. Which is it?

it would run fine for about 10min wot and just stop like you cut it off, restart and go again and cut off. pumping bulb doesn't help. now its missing and doing the same thing. i plan to pull the flywheel as soon as the weather permits.

Remove the black/yellow wire from the ignition switch. If that cures what appears to be an ignition failure, replace the ignition switch.

Note... with that wire disconnected, you will not be able to shut the engine down with the key switch.

when it happens check for spark,
then swap the wires from pp to coil.
dont run the motor only check for spark
let us know what happens.

i suspect a bad powerpack.
