I have an RDS-22 which is a 1961 Johnson 40 H.P. outboard. I am looking for any type of tachometer that I can use with it. Any help in this mater would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for your help.

Great, now when I buy it, can someone please give me detailed information on how to install this gauge all the way to the dash. I need to moniter it on the water (or I would really like to). Thank-you again for your help.

If you *really* want an analog tach, and you have some background in building simple electronic circuits, you can try this:

http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=28;t=036529
(Nov 13 post has the final schematic)

Tinytach is the simple and affordable way to go though. Make sure you tell them what you need it for (I think they attach an optional filter) and how long a pickup extension you need. Reports generally say they're very helpful on the phone, but often don't reply to email for some reason.

I am have bben searching for a tach for my 1960 40hp for a couple weeks now, I even bought one off e-bay, but turns out its for a '72. anyway the tiny tach is sweet, but I really don't like the idea of wunning another wire in the splashwell, and it has a 6' lead standard, so u need to special order the lenghth, plus it would be the newest thing on my boat by about 30 years. I have considered mounting it under the cowell just to prop the thing, but like you I woould really like a needle gauge on the dash.

I am still gonna try and get one that works shuffling them around on e-bay, but I will probably end up doing the converter these guys came up with if I dont find one soon.
