I'm looking for a source for a head and head gasket for a 1980 2 HP Johnson, J2RCS. The existing one has a helicoil and I'd just as soon get rid of it. I haven't had any luck on the Internet and my dealer says they are no longer available. Any suggestions of where I might look would be appreciated.

You are right about the head, but my sources show the gasket as available.Never did figure out the helicoil/sparkplug deal.I have seen references about hot spots and preignition, yet OMC always sold the helicoil kits.

Were it my engine I would not be concerned about the helicoil, but as these engines do tend to run hot,I'd make sure the helicoil is not even close to protruding into the combustion chamber.

Any dealer might have old stock sitting on his shelf.

DHP

Finding a whole parts motor might be easier than looking for a new head.

If you are dead set about replacing the head, give SeaWay Marine out in Washington St. a call. They have a web site. They carry a lot of the discontinued stuff. Last good part number for the head was PN 432670.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I searched some more on the net, and found Fairwinds Marina in Maryland. They seem to have a lot of obsolete parts. Don't you suppose they were open Sunday and it took 'em only 15 mins. to come up with a used head in great shape except one of four gas tank mounting tabs is busted off. But at only $20, I figure I can fabricate something if needed.
Al
