Which manuals??

Greetings everyone,
I've recently acquired what I think is a 1971 Evinrude 25, Ser#25103S-E03556.
I would like to learn to do my own maintenance and repair, and believe that I am capable of doing so. I've done some searching and found a couple of different repair manuals. I'm wondering which one(s) I really need, and are best matched to this motor.
The motor is in pretty good shape, but in need of some TLC. I'd like to keep it for the long haul.

Thank You-
-MatB

Re: Which manuals??

Welcome to iboats. :)

Give your public library a visit. Many have aftermarket (Clymer, etc) manuals. That way you can compare for yourself, or at least see what they include. You can search the Marine Store tab and find many right here on iboats. You're right about the year and Hp. :)

The Best one would be the factory one. Those are available thru Ken Cook Co (google the name), and pop up on eBay now and then. Don't worry about the year too much if you can't find 1971. A few years either way will be essentially the same. Except for paint and decals, those stayed the same for a long time.

If you really want to get into it, go for the OEM service manual. It will give specific info for your engine. Will probably cost a few bucks more but will be worth it over that "long haul". Other places to find reprints of the manuals...outboardwizard, isomarine, marine.com to name a few. All have sites. I would also get the parts manual also.

i agree with OBJ. I have a seloc manual and the thing drives me nuts somtimes becuase it covers so many different motors that you dont get the details you want about your own. The factory or OEMs in my opinion are the way to go.

ojb is right, the others have miss prints, vague info. clymer is best used in the outhouse, page by page. imho.

Re: Which manuals??

Thank you everyone! I've got the complete set coming from Ken Cook. I'm sure I'll have some questions when I get started, so let this be your warning :D

Thanks again
-MatB
