In Thailand we where towed behind a jet ski on this thing. I can not remember how it was set up, but even i could standup and it was fun. I would like to do the same thing behind my boat but could not find something like that on the net. Any ideas.

They work great in fast rivers too, stake the rope in the rocks by shore, and "ski" out into the river using the current just like a boat would pull you. Along those lines, watch out for boats!

Bollie,
I'm very interested in making a sled like you presented in the pictures. It would be fun to be different on the lake. My son and I were thinking of "inventing" something simple like this for playing around in the water. I do have a couple questions for you about this sled.

a. This look like it was made out of wood. Can you give us a little more information on the dimension (ie. lenght/width). In addition, was this a one piece or is it two pieces and one at 90 degree to the other piece. Can't really tell from the picture.

b. When they pull you, were you hydroplanning on the water or did the board touch the sand?

c. How fast did they pull you?

Thanks.

Re: How do I do this 2 pictures

This pics was taken a few years ago and i can not remember the dimentions. It was made out of a piece of plywood. I never skied in my life but i was up and going on the first go. I thought it can be a great alternate for tubing. I was wondering if i would be laughed at for trying something like this. I am to old to learn to ski and my son is to scared of getting on ski's There was no learning kerf to ride this thing.

"O" it was in about 5' of water and it was plaining but not to fast. I am kind of heavy but it did went a lot faster with smaler members of the family.I think it it would work better if one can put a upwards curve in the leading edge

We used to call these hydroplanes and we made them out of plywood reinforced around the edge
with more plyw. They are fun, but if you fall off while cornering, they can whack you and poss. finish you off.

Re: How do I do this 2 pictures

I learned to ski as a child on one of those (same as the pic at the top of the thread) 35 years ago. If I remember correctly, it was not home made, my dad bought it from a shop. It was quite large and it had a turned up front edge. On the front was the tow rope connection and the handle was connected permanently to the board. There was no bindings, you just stood on it. We used to plane at 'skiing' speed but when you crashed, the board would nose dive and go very deep - it often took a few minutes to resurface.

I think they were called skiboards.

Aldo

At ****s sporting goods I saw a similar setup. Its a kneeboard but has the towrope attached to it instead of having the rider hold onto it. Then there is a handle for the rider to hold onto the board with. Made for adults & kids to get the feel for kneeboarding without having to deal with the pull from the boat.

Bollie there are a couple sleds on e-bay that look very similar to your photo. Search under kneeboard and they should appear.
