My son purchased a 1999 Crestliner with only 250 hours on it from the WI DNR. Well maintained but with a few minor problems. The DNR Warden told us it might need a new ECU and he was correct. We took it to an experienced Evinrude dealer that sent the ECU to the factory in exchange for a new one. On the first trip out, the motor ran fine for about 5 minutes total. The engine killed, then it started, but died when put into gear, then it never started again. We pulled a few plugs and found a smoked piston. Do you have any advice for us? Do you think we have any recource with the dealer? Or should we start to look for another power unit? The Ficht is a 1999 150 sn#E150FPLEEA, any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you,Paul
<br /><br />Those motors had considerable problems. There was an update kit that helped some, but nothing cured them. If you used any stale gas, that's likely what trashed the piston. But it could've been other things too. I'd look for an entirely different motor.
