Hello I disconnected all bolts, but am haveing a hard time finding the shift rod disconnect. I pulled both carbs to get a better look. I saw and unscrewed one 7/16 bolt with no success. Any help would be deeply apreciated.

---------------------
RUNNING THE MOTOR WHILE LISTENING TO THE HORN WILL MAKE YOU MORN!!

Was that one bolt you removed connecting the shift arm to the shift rod?

It was a 7/16 hex bolt directly under the bottom carb facing towards the front of the boat. I'm not sure if it disconnected the shift arm or not. I didn't notice anything giving when I removed it. Any ideas? Did I remove the wrong bolt? Thank you for the reply.

-------------------
RUNNING THE MOTOR WHILE LISTENING TO THE HORN WILL MAKE YOU MORN!!

That ain't the one CU.....since you got the carbs off, this should be easy. Look at the shift lever and see wear the shift rod comes into it. On the starboard side of the lever is the shift rod retaining screw. When you pull this pin out, it will be threaded part way down and the rest will be smooth and smaller than the threads. Should be blunt on the end.

You probably pulled out the keeper bolt that holds the shift lever to the shift shaft.

Check the link below. It'll take you to the BRP site. Click on "Engine Diagrams", follow the prompts and take a look at the crankcase assembly. That's where you'll find the shift lever and all that stuff.....Give you an idea of what to look for.

http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/

Does the retaining screw have a coter pin in it? When I get this screw out does it let the rod free or do I have to move it one way or the other? I'm at wits end! Wish it wasn't Sunday I would have that manual. I will tomarrow. Thanks for your input.
CU

-------------------
RUNNING THE MOTOR WHILE LISTENING TO THE HORN WILL MAKE YOU MORN!!

I just realized I posted it to be a 50 horse and it is a 40 horse. Maybe that makes a diference. Sorry.

Both 40 and 50's had the same set up CU. There is no coter pin. It screws into the that shift lever. The shift lever is triangular in shape. Follow the shift rod up to it. Can't miss it. As your looking at the engine from the front, the retaining screw will be on the right hand side of the lever. Once it's out, the shift rod will be free.

Did you take a look at the BRP site?
