I'm looking at a boat a guy has owned since new and he can't or willn't take a guess at the number of hours on motor. Does this motor have an onboard computor where I can get engine hours?

Not the carb'd versions. Won't make a lot of difference anyway. A compression test and a leakdown will tell you what shape the motor's in. Hours really dont matter.

We've seen 'em barely broke in at 500 hours and broken at 5. Several thousand hours is not uncommon.

I went an looked at the motor today. It apprear to be in good shape but I wonder about the compression. I ran a compression check after the mtor had been run for a while and all cylinders came in within a few PSI of each other which is good but they where all right around 95 PSI.

How bad are these numbers? Does it have a few more hours left in her?

sounds good on compression
can you do a leak down test?

How do you do a leak test? All I have is a standard compression gauge.

If it idled well and the compression is that close, I'd say you're good to go. I'd further say that as long as it's maintained and stays running properly as far as cooling, fuel delivery and ignition you'll have at least a couple thousand hours left in it.

Constant use is the best thing for it. Sitting around is not that good for them.

Thanks for the input Guys. I'm going out for a sea trail on Monday and if everything goes well I guess I'll pull the trigger.
