Hello,
I have a 1984 Evinrude with a mangled yoke(bent back on one side). The rest is ok.
I lent the motor to a friend and he said it ran fine up and down a long lake, then it started jumping out of gear. No blame, but I'll blink next time someone asks to borrow it.
I have two questions;
Where can I find a used one-OMC part #388416, and a cradle. I believe the part fits well into the 80's and maybe into the 90's.
I'm also trying to figure out how it happened. The gears are fine, no water leaks, nothing damaged except the yoke where the cradle sits.
I'm thinking, the motor might have fallen over on the shift lever, or it was put into gear at really high rpms. However if that was the case, there should be metal chips and chipped gears.
I live in Ottawa, Canada, and the part up here is $115, taxes in.The cradle is $30, Canadian.
Any leads, and thought on how/why it happened so I can avoid the problem in the future.
Thanks
