Tilt trim worked fine when I took it out of the water last year and not the trim motor wont do any. Tested the swithces and it appeares the two selenoids are ticking when the power buttons are puched so there is power but motor wont work. Engine only has 46 hours on it. Any clues would be helpfull as I would like to have this fixed before I sell my boat? I do not want to dump repair problems on the next owner.

Re: 2000 JOHNSON 40 TILT TRIM wont work

Welcome KC!

Follow the lead from the TNT motor to were it connects to the power supply leads from the relay box. Take the connection apart and you should find a green and blue wire. Green is down and blue is up.

Use jumpers to apply positive and negtive sides of the battery to the motor wires. Positive to green and negative to blue, the engine should trim down and vise versa for up.

This will let you know if the motor is OK and maybe get it going from the TNT switch.

If the motor runs, pull the relays and clean the stabs on them. I think maybe your just seeing a little corrosion from setting all winter, on the connections from the relays to the motor.

Give us an update as to what you find.....thanks!

Re: 2000 JOHNSON 40 TILT TRIM wont work

Was funny, I tried the other night when I discoverd the power problem with the trim to loosen the trim release so I could lower the motor. I made the horrible mistake of unscrewing the drain plug for the hydrolic fluid (LIKE A COMPLETE MORON) while the pressure was still on the piston and wound up with a great hydrolic fluid shower. Was quite the kodak moment! TO me all screws look alike!
