Re: VRO pump rebuild.

If the vro pump you have now works ,it can be used as a 50:1 pumper.Just need to cap off the oil inlet and disconnect the alarm harness from the vro pump. Also need to disconnect the low oil alarm wires from the oil reservoir.Post back and tell us whether your vro pump is in operating condition, and someone can give you the entire conversion process.

Otherwise a conventional fuel pump can be got for your engine from any John/Rude dealer.

Re: VRO pump rebuild.

I just bought the motor it's not on the pontoon yet, supposedly it was a working VRO system.
Due to the multiple users of the pontoon we felt converting it mix was the safest solution.

I've read the sticky on the conversion and with your help and others I think we have it covered, I thought it was recomended to rebuild the VRO pump we don't mind spending a few more bucks if it will help.

Where would I get a rebuild or new VRO pump???

thanks again pier.

Re: VRO pump rebuild.

Like OB said, if it's working, stay with it. No need to replace or rebuild it at this point. From what I understand, the original pumps are better than the fuel only replacement pumps. Pretty reliable....If you have multiple users, I would suggest that you put a sticker by the fuel tank stating that it requires a 50:1(Premix) so there is no confusion..

Re: VRO pump rebuild.

Bill at Maxrules.com carries the kits for the VRO. He recommends using both sets.

Re: VRO pump rebuild.

PierBridge - just to plant an idea in your head: why convert to pre-mix if the VRO pump is working? I'm a pre-mixer, but if I had a working VRO system I'd stick with it unless I had some good reason. Premixing is a hassle and my personal opinion, is not fool proof, just as a VRO system is not fool proof. I'm the kind of fool that sometimes forgets if I've put oil in the tank. I know I've probably double oiled a couple of times becaus of that, but I wonder if I've sometimes not oiled, spaced it out and then run a lean mixture (say if I topped off with 5 or 10 gallons (out of 25) w/o oil.). Anyway, why convert to premix? Just curious.

Re: VRO pump rebuild.

From what I've read in this forum, just keep an eye on it - routine inspection of the system and making sure it is indeed pumping oil.

The horn works, while testing the engine in a tank the oil reservoirr tipped over and the horn started beeping.

Thanks again.

Or was that the low oil alarm I'm hearing?
