two plugs black and sooty

started her up today and she was poping out the exhaust would not clear so i checked the new plugs and two were very black sooty,checked spark with plug out of engine and looked ok on both plugs, Now I did read somewhere that if the oil resevoir tank ends up above the engine oil can drain my boat was parked on an incline and the resevoir would of been above it is this possible?? where do i start the carbs? clean them while motor is running? new gas in tank,,,engine is a 1996 200 hp evinrude.

Sounds like the leads on those two plugs are crossed.

I dont think its possible .the coils and wires are right next to the plugs,I will double check though.what about decarbon the engine could the carbs be gummed up??

Also check to make sure the primary wires (orange) are not crossed.

Test the recirculation valves too. They can cause all kinds of idle problems.

recir. valves what are they and where??? just an update I did find a torn rubber gasket on one of the carbs its probably that valve you are talking about its on the side under a plastic plate with 4 screws,,,on the carb,, under this was a tan colored diaphram Ithnk this might be my problem not allowing fuel to the cylinder,,,nowdoes anyone know how to adjust that screw with a spring on it left corner of the carb i believe its a air fuel mixture screw 1996 evin,200 hp two stroke six carbs on the back,,,by the way I put all the champion plugs back in!!!

Drem, we all try to offer help here, but I really think you need to get a service manual for your motor and read it.

is this a boat forum where you ask questions to qualified people or should we talk about the weather ??I know about getting a manual I will tomorrow today I had a day off and was into the motor so I was going back and forth getting good advice if you think Im asking too many questions then dont answer the damn question.

I agree he was giving me great advice so like everyone else I kept asking questions and his reply I took as stop asking so many freaking questions and get a manual, and that was sweet of you javelin to stick up for him,,,I get the damn manual too much drama on this forum

Drem, my reply was to mean that a good manual will tell you in detail where and what and how to test the recirculation valves and even have pictures of them. Its real hard to give advice and suggestion when you have no idea what I'm referring to. Heck, I've been working on V4 Crossflows for 20 plus years and I still refer to my manuals sometimes.<br />Shop hours in my part of the country are $85. How much money can you save by buying a manual and then asking educated questions for free here.
