I cannot get any power out of reverse. Runs perfectly in forward. When I come into my slip reverse hardly slows the boat down. When backing out it is very slow if there is a current. No grinding noise, sounds like it goes right into reverse. Could this be a cable adjustment?.

Are you saying you're getting low rpms in reverse or just not getting any thrust?

most engines are designed to push not to pull. Reverse slowly build up speed. Dont forget that the prop is spinning in water with exhaust and it loses grip.

It doesn't matter to the engine which way the boat is going. What matters is hull design (how much water is the hull pushing backwards) and prop design. Recreational boats have props that are designed to peak performance going forward. In reverse they have minimal "bite" as compared to forward.

Complete link/sync of throttle/ timing linkage, and cable adjustment. Control box limits movement of throttle cable in reverse.
