Hello Forum,

Been reading all of the posts here for the past couple of days - this is a great board.

I am picking up a 1998 17.5ft Aquasport w/1999 115 Johnson Outboard. This boat has been wrapped up and in the Marina for the past 3 years.

I know that I am going to have to do some maintannance but dont know where to start. I am going to get a owners manual from a Johnson dealer, but where else should I start ?

Welcome aboard. First off, I would say to drop the lower unit, do a waterpump kit, change the gear oil, and put new t-stats in it, do all of this before even starting for the first time, unless of course you have already started it before buying it.

Then I would drain any gas that's been sitting in that Aquasport, don't just add new gas to it, get rid of all the old gas and get good fresh fuel in it. Once you get that done, throw a set of the proper Champions in it and fire it up. If you want you can pull a carb off and take a look to see if there is any build up in them and rebuild them if you need to, that'll save you from running the engine lean and causing damage.
