Sorry it took that long. Yes I did have one left. Type in your e-mail and I will contact you, then. Meanwhile I will investigate shipping a bit to see if it is possible.

Hi G dane

Here are a couple of photos to make sure it is the right shaft that you have buddy..

As you can see from the photos my drive shaft is 78 cm long and judging by the lengh of the black drive shaft tube the short shaft will be 20 cm shorter.

The drive shaft has 14 splines on both ends as well.

Also do you know if I can get a shorter gear changer or will I need to cut the one on the engine.

Thanks Colin

I have been on the BRP part finder website and from what I can gather the std drive shaft is 5 inches or 13cm shorter than the long shaft hope this is of help to you.

Re: FAO G Dane

This one is 65,7 cm long. It is 15,84 mm in diameter, except from the section where it is turned down to 12,71. This one has 14 splines in top, to meet cranckshaft, and 19 splines in the lowerunit, possibly you have counted wrong at the buttom. Unfortunately I couldnt find the plastic tube, but I will be in the shop tonight and will look further. It came off a 1979 25 HP, 77 or 78 was the year thay changed the impeller drive. Ive seen one before that were modified by drilling the hole for the drive pin on the side opporsite to the half-moon, but I personally would get another inpeller, at installation. One of my boys moved 2 weeks ago and took the digital camera with him. I will try to get hold of it tonight. This shaft has 2 rings of slight pitting one at top of the impeller, next where shaft leaves impeller housing. Never gave any throubles, though.Sorry for the slow replies, but I work awfully long hours theese days.

Re: FAO G Dane

There should be a difference of 5 " or 12,7 cm between the 2 lengths, so yours should be 78,4 cm, if I measured right. It has partnumber 324778 stamped in the thin part of it. 315386 should be a long driveshaft with pin drive. Prt numbers can be looked up at bombardiers website.I just looked in the parts catalogue, it seems like they list different part numbers for the 25 and 35 HP drive shaft, better recheck the splines in bottum, it might not fit at all.

Hi G Dane

My shaft has definitely got 14 splines on both ends but it is as you say 78.4 cm long.I have included a couple of photos so you can see the recess for the roller needle that drives the impeller.

Re: FAO G Dane

Hi again. Sorry, the one I have is different. Odd, I put 3 motors together , 25 and 35 HP thru the last years and had those different shafts lying aside. By pure luck I never grabbed the wrong one. It is not a bearing needle that should drive the impeller, but a small half moon shaped piece. Guess a bearing needle works too. What I would do is go to a good welder carrying a sixpack or so of the best available beer. Make him cut and shorten the driveshaft, put both ends in lathe and centermark them. Then drill a thin dovel pin in both ends. Afterwards sharpen them, clamp it to something straight and weld them together. Make the cut as close to middle as possible, allowing a little flex if needed. Afterwards its easy to correct the warp and use it. I have seen ti done without any problems.

Re: FAO G Dane

Hi G Dane

I might have to do the cut and shut on the drive shaft but its getting it balanced properly that worries me because if the balance is out the shaft will destroy the bottom end.

I will put a new post on and see if anyone fancies a swap LS for SS

Thanks for your help bud

LLB

The wee Yammy I have owned for 8 years and I have a suzuki 800 as well
