Howdy, Zig.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Your question is not clear. No start? Go to the Engine FAQs and troubleshoot "Outboard wont start".

Something else? Please explain.

Coil faces show any signs of rubbing? There should be three screws per coil, one holding the point down (neglecting the adjustment screw), one holding the condensor down, and four phillips in the centre anchoring the armature plate.
How did you remove the flywheel?

sorry about the mess up. motor was cranking up and then quit. noticed ign. wires and spark plug wire were broken. bracket holding wires was seized up on flywheel. rmvd flywheel and bracket for wires is loose/off not broken. don't know where it attaches to repair and try again. bolts missing? probably in water after i tried starting it until batt. died.

coils look good. there is a little bit of magnetized fuzz on flywheel?? i used a steering wheel puller, did the trick.

Thanks rwise i actually had some time to work on the motor. I still had no luck with the mystery bracket so i put a bolt on a maybe spot. I made sure all was moving like it should. got it all back together and- bam motor started and ran perfect, died at lower speeds then fine after a while. then bolt i put on came undone. i am back to square 1 coils did show signs of wear and flywheel is sticking. do i need to break down and take it in??

Ok, looks like you're doing fine here. Either the coils are set too far forward, or the armature plate on which they sit is too wobbly. Easy to check the coils, they should be nice and even with the machined face on the bosses they sit on. That is to say, surface A and Surface B should be even:

And here's a picture of the underside of an armature plate (sorry about the quality, it's kind of old)

If you need some details, I can take a newer, clearer picture.

If the reason the coils are striking the flywheel is that the armature plate is excessively loose, it's fairly easy to repair. Check out Joe Reeves' wobbly armature plate fix:
http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=28;t=020981

Have a look at GDane's comments as well. I've had to do that too on really bad plates. With the wobble out, it'll run a lot more quietly too.
