Re: fastwin

Seahorse...where'd ya' get the model number from? Should be a tag on the port transom bracket or look on the block for a large welch plug with the model number on it. The "model" number you posted....close as I can get is a 16.2hp 1936 engine. Now that would be a find!

Re: fastwin

obj. <br /> The serial & model number I posted came from the transom bracket tag.the tag also says montgomery ward. says Evinrude on the motor. <br /> The welch plug says 0628976 . Looks like a normal big twin except for those goat horn air intakes . looks like 2 goat horns bolted on the the carb inlet. silencers I guess lol. thanks obj<br /> Rickdb1boat, Thats what hp it looks like . anybody ever see a threaded prop shaft nut on these ? thanks

Re: fastwin

OH yeah seahorse....some of the older J/Rudes had a thread on the end of the prop shaft so you could thread the prop nut on.....then put a cotter key through it.

Re: fastwin

edit: "The welch plug says 0628976 ." it says 0628978. <br /><br />Thanks obj , the nut with cotter pin is exactly what this one has . Is this thing still a gale ? <br />The cowling says 1 quart to six gallon. 24:1.<br />hottest blue fire I have ever seen on these ole buggers. Do you use the hypoid oil in the lower units ? I did in my 1958 35hp johnson . thanks

Re: fastwin

seahorse, i have a '55 15hp rude. hypiod oil, there are 2 screws(plugs) on the foot. open the bottom one then open the top one. be prepare to catch the grease. i still use the old way of refilling with the tubes. i start the top plug just enough to hold it in place, insert tub in bottom hole firmly and squeeze, air wiil escape out the top plug, fill until grease start to escape. holding tube in place tighten top plug, remove tube and quickly insert bottom plug. fuel mix is 24-1. mine start 1-2 pull everytime. will runs wot or troll all day long without a cough. there are two adjustment on the front high and low speed. it is easier to adjust on the water. get the high speed adjusted, then adjust the slow speed. mine has the goat horns. johnson/evinrude/gale are 99% identical. i got a couple of shear pins by emailing 'jodyh@sea-way.com' good luck

Re: fastwin

What you have, Seahorse, is a 1956 Sea King 12HP, made by the Gale Corp, a part of OMC, for Montgomery Ward.<br /><br />Because these engines were nearly identical to JohnnyRude models the Evinrude Fastwin cover fits like the original.

I called NAPA about these parts and they dont show seaking brand in their books. I wonder if anyone would know where I can get the Sierra part numbers for an impeller, carb kit and fuel pump kit for this engine. Model GG9021A serial 628978 . 12 hp . montgomery ward . I also wonder if there is a johnson motor that will cross the same parts ?(seaking).appreciate any help .
